When I was in the 8th grade, a girl had written in my yearbook, “There’s Kirk, sitting on the beach, trying to figure out how to turn $.99 cents into one dollar”. I guess my stewardship towards money started at an early age. When I was 19, I moved to Mammoth Lakes, CA for the winter ski season. My father had given me my first financial book and asked me to read it while up there. I was hooked. I knew my career would be in some aspect of financial services.
In 1990, I started in the mortgage services industry. I figured if I can show someone how to save money on their monthly mortgage payments, that that would be like getting a tax-free raise from their employer. It was a no brainer, for surely everyone likes to save money. That eventually led to career in the industry I now belong, income planning for retirement and money management. My greatest desire is to help educate pre-retirees and retirees on how to effectively prepare for retirement, no matter how daunting the task. I focus on protecting ones assets, showing them how to potentially participate in the upswings of the market, while trying to eliminate the downturns in their portfolios. My main focus is on what I call the BIG 3:
- Growth (minimizing market risk)
- Income (even if you run out of money)
I am also a firm believer in the Rule of 100; subtracting your age from 100, and keeping the larger number in safe, guaranteed vehicles, while keeping your lower number in an environment that may enable one to keep up with inflation with the least, possible risk. I am a firm believer that there should be 3 worlds of money in everyone’s portfolio: liquid money, safe money, and perhaps money at risk (very little though). If this sounds appealing to you, I’d love to visit with you and discuss your particular situation.
I have been married to my beautiful wife Traci for 15 years and have two beautiful children, Nicole age 13 and Zachary age 10. I am a native of California and have been residing in San Clemente, CA since 1999, but have grown up in this area since 1975. In my spare time, I have been very involved in my community coaching youth sports; soccer, volleyball, football, basketball, and baseball. In the winter, I enjoy time spent snowboarding with my family and in the spring and summer, our family enjoys Lake Havasu and going to the beach. I have also been heard on the radio throughout Southern California as co-host for Straight Talk Wealth Radio and have been seen in various restaurants conducting dinner seminars.
I look forward to visiting with you.
